What is Ayurveda

The native Indian Traditional System of Medicine – Ayurveda, which is a natural plant based system of medicine, originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. The word Ayurveda literally translates from the Sanskrit words Ayur (life) and Veda (science or knowledge). Thus, Ayurveda actually means it is Science of Life. Based on this concept it is explained by Acharya Sushrutha that disease is due to an imbalance of bodily humors, digestive fire deficiency and basic elements derangement combined with imbalances or stress in a person’s mental well being or consciousness,

Ayurveda Treatment & Tenets:

Ayurveda encourages certain lifestyle interventions and natural therapies to regain the lost balance between the body, mind, spirit, and the environment.Ayurveda treatment starts with an internal purification process, followed by a special diet, herbal remedies, massage therapy, yoga, and meditation.

The concepts of universal interconnectedness, the body’s constitution (prakriti), and life forces (doshas) are the primary basis of ayurvedic medicine. Goals of treatment aid the person by eliminating impurities, reducing symptoms, increasing resistance to disease, reducing worry, and increasing harmony in life.

Ayurveda can have positive effects when used as a main therapy line or as a complementary therapy in combination with standard, conventional medical care.

Diet & Lifestyle

Due to a faulty diet and abnormal lifestyle the normalcy of the Tridoshas / bodily humors are disturbed and they aggravate in the body. Vitiated Tridoshas disturb the normalcy of Dhatus and Malas causing their vitiation further which manifest as various diseases in the human body. Thus the health of an individual depends upon the normalcy of the Doshas, Dhatus and Malas.

Proper ways of maintaining a good Diet & Lifestyle are described in Ayurveda for maintenance of health and also during treatment of diseases [Pathya]. Anything which is detrimental to a human body is called Apathya.

Regimen of Personal and Social Hygiene :- Daily routine (Dinacharya), Seasonal regimens (Ritucharya), including basic sanitation and healthy living environment are well explained as tenets in Ayurveda when followed properly helps in keeping an individual healthy, happy & disease free.
